National Indigenous Fire Safety Council
Graphic Designer
NIFSC provides fire safety training, knowledge sharing, and practical support to Indigenous communities across Canada. In addition, the organization hosts an annual national conference featuring expert-led presentations, hands-on training sessions, and competitions that bring together professionals from multiple fire safety disciplines.
Based on feedback gathered from previous conferences, the 2024 conference branding aimed to further strengthen community support by intentionally integrating Indigenous art into the visual identity. As I did not have prior experience working with Indigenous art, I focused on developing cultural understanding through research, studying historical references, visual traditions, and available resources to capture the essential characteristics of Indigenous artistic expression in a respectful and authentic way. The resulting design was presented during T-shirt design discussions and received approval and positive feedback from participating Indigenous artists, demonstrating successful alignment between cultural respect and contemporary design execution.
To ensure consistency across all conference materials, I established design regulations and visual guidelines for event applications. This approach maintained a cohesive brand presence throughout the conference and contributed to strengthening overall brand recognition.
